Oh I met a guy today
He told me what romance is.
He asked me if I'd go with him
To a private beach with red wine
Do some salsa with him
Because he was a trained dancer
He thought he'd persuade me
Into believing that the beaches
Are the perfect limelight
For a romantic vacation.
I told him I'm not like you.
I like the mountains more.
Romance isn't at the beach for me.
It's in the balcony of my room
In the middle of the road at night
Walking maybe, after a dinner light
Cooking in the kitchen together
Is what romance is for me
Dancing salsa at the beach? No
Maybe at the TV music in the hall
If he asks me to stop cooking, takes my hands
And moves me by my waist to dance
Or calls me from the store
To ask if there's something I need
Is what romance is for me.
He said we were the same.
And that he liked just what I did
I told him, no, we're different.
You're poles apart from me.
And it's not a good thing
To force the same to be.
He said he'd read what I write
And this is what he said,
"Only a person who has given
A lot of efforts to certain emotions
Can afford to write such things"
I told him, It'd have been better
If he'd started with this
Instead of telling me how
My smile intrigued him
I told him, this intriguing
Wasn't going to last long
I wasn't the kind of girl
He would like, nor for long
He seemed pretty adamant
That my thought was wrong.
I said goodnight to him
And thought to myself
If you'd really read what I write
You won't be here today.
But if challenges are what you like
Go on with this one
I'm sure I'll win with my darkness
Much long before you realize the fun. ~ Anushka Pandit
