🧬 5 suggestions to fight off cold & flu season naturally 🧬 •
☀️ Although a lot of us are still experiencing warmer than average temps, autumn has officially arrived! Along with that, our bodies see a major drop in sunlight, our nutritional intake takes a steep dive, we have less energy, and cold & flu season is literally right around the corner.
💪🏻 So, what can we do to keep our bodies healthy & ready to fight off the dreaded yuck?! Over the last 6 yrs, our family has done a ton of trial & error. Although we are not perfected by any stretch, our germ fighting/immune boosting toolboxes are full and I’d like to share with you what we’ve learned...
1. Remove the toxins in your home - I can not stress this enough!! Toxins are stressful to our immune systems and can have a large impact on how our bodies respond when faced with illness. If finances allow, go through your home & toss out everything that has ingredients you can’t pronounce! If you’re limited financially, take baby steps, & do a little at a time. This includes processed foods, health/beauty products, cleaning agents and smelly/scentsy products. There are much healthier alternatives out there!
2. Exercise regularly - We’ve all heard this a million times and for good reason. Truth is, when we exercise, not only do we reduce stress, but we also improve antibody & white blood cell function.
3. Make healthier food choices - Did you know there are foods that can actually boost your immune system? Replace the processed foods with whole foods & add the following:
•Yogurt/Kefir & sauerkraut/kimchi: gut healthy probiotics
•Garlic: antibacterial/antiviral/anti-fungal properties
•Red bell peppers: more vitamin C than oranges
•Ginger: potent antioxidant/anti inflammatory properties
•Sweet potatoes: high in vitamins A & C/beta-carotene as well as antioxidants
•Mushrooms: naturally stimulate our immunity
•Salmon: high in vitamin D
•Raw honey: not only good for sore throats but also has antibacterial properties and is packed with antioxidants.
