• How do you handle being the bad guy in someone else’s story? • -We as humans are FLAWED!! If you didn’t know, now you know!! -Sometimes, we hurt people. Sometimes we mean to. Sometimes we don’t. -Yes, I challenge you to spend everyday asking how you can love better and live better BUT... I think more importantly than that, how do we and how can we better handle confronting the fact that we affected someone negatively without demeaning how someone else feels? -Do you jump to justification? Are your first thoughts those of defense? -If someone called me a liar.. my initial reaction would oh HECK NO! I’m no liar. I pride myself on honesty. BUT... that is my pride and ego talking. Have I lied in my life? Yes. Okay okay. So how can I understand the other person’s perception of reality and see how it applies to me and why they are feeling this way. -When it comes to someone’s feelings, we do NOT get to decide that they do or do not feel some way AND we do NOT get to decide whether or not they SHOULD feel some way. -Someone’s feelings are their own to feel. And they have every right to feeling them. So how do we get passed our pride and defensive ego? -Acknowledgement and responsibility. -Understanding and recognizing that your words or actions made someone feel bad and acknowledging that to the hurting party is so powerful. -Believe it or not... it is okay to make mistakes. If you hurt someone unintentionally it does not make you a bad person. But what is not okay is deciding that you are not the bad guy and what they are feeling isn’t valid. -The next time someone confronts you about how your words or actions hurt them, I challenge you to respond with this instead of defense and justification. Try saying “I hear you. And I now recognize and understand that my words/actions have made you feel this way and for that I sincerely apologize. What can I do in the future to make sure this doesn’t happen again?” #livboldlyandgo .
